Established in 1872, Boston University School of Law reformed the nation’s legal education system by requiring an exam for admission into the school. BU Law was also among the first to admit women and minorities. In 1881, Lelia Josephine Robinson was first woman to graduate. A year later, after appearing before the state legislature in support of a bill allowing women to be admitted to the state bar, Ms. Robinson became the first woman licensed to practice law in Massachusetts. Today, BU Law ranks among the top 20 schools in the nation according to U.S. News and World Report.

The school has a diverse student body, which represents a number of undergraduate institutions, ethnicities, and employment backgrounds. BU Law offers a broad curriculum. Students have the opportunity to choose from approximately 150 courses offered at the upper level, and can pursue a concentration in any one of five areas of study. In addition, students have the opportunity to pursue a practical course of study in one of the school’s clinical or advanced litigation programs. Students are offered the opportunity expand their horizons by travelling to one of the school’s 13 study abroad locations. For those interested in more than a JD, the school also offers a number of joint degrees and LLM programs.

BU Law’s location in Boston gives students a great place to study and access to a number of valuable resources, as well as externship and internship possibilities.
