Founded 1847 | ABA Accredited 1925

Established in 1847, Tulane University Law School is the 12th oldest law school in the nation. Located in New Orleans, LA, the law school is ranked among the top 50 law schools according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings. Many students are aware that Louisiana is considered a civil law state. However, its Louisiana location does not affect the type of law taught at Tulane Law. The school explains, “We offer a full curriculum in the common law, just as any other law school does, plus electives in the civil law for students intending to practice in Louisiana or another civil law jurisdiction or who have a serious interest in comparative law.” (Tulane Law Website) The school boasts that it was the first law school in the nation to require a certain number of hours of public service as a prerequisite for graduation, and believes that its curricular strengths include international and comparative law, maritime law, and environmental law.
