With respect to its faculty, the law school boasts, “The faculty at Hastings has the perfect blend of experience and new talent. Led by stalwarts whose writings include the leading textbooks used in classrooms throughout the nation, the newcomers arrive having clerked with judges and justices at every level of the federal bench and having completed doctorate degrees in health, psychology, history and sociology, to name a few. Adding to this mix are many seasoned teacher-practitioners, whose work in our clinical programs makes an indelible impact not only on the professional opportunities of our graduates, but on the lives of the many real clients it serves.” (UC Hastings Website)
When it comes to student life, there are more than 60 student organizations and eight law journals. “Student life at Hastings is defined as much by what students do off campus as what they do on campus. Whether it is seeing great live music, catching an exciting play, enjoying wine country, exploring a museum, or going to a ball game, Hastings students enjoy the numerous attractions of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, even on a tight budget!” (UC Hastings Website)
With respect to student housing, UC Hastings has housing devoted exclusively to law students which is located primarily in the McAllister Tower. “The Tower holds 248 efficiency, studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments on 17 floors, housing 300 Hastings students and their families. In addition to the Tower, Hastings students have access to housing at UCSF's Mission Bay campus, about two miles from Hastings. A MUNI light rail line connects the two locations.” (UC Hastings Website) In addition, the school provides resources to assist those students interested in residing off-campus.
