UNC Law offers a variety of clinics, programs, and courses to its students that give them the ability to explore both the theoretical and practical sides of the law. To earn a J.D. at UNC Law, a student must achieve a total of 86 credit hours consisting of 33 credit hours of required courses. UNC Law also offers concentrations in a variety of fields including: criminal law, corporate law, environmental law, family law, international law, juvenile law, labor law, litigation, securities law, and tax law. In addition to the basic curriculum leading to a J.D., UNC Law offers over 40 upper level seminars. If students find that a particular course is not offered at UNC Law, reciprocity sometimes allows them to take that course at either Duke School of Law or North Carolina Central University School of Law. There are also a variety of clinical offerings for students to participate in. UNC Law’s clinics are Criminal Law Clinic, Immigration/Human Rights Clinic, Civil Legal Assistance Clinic, and Community Development Law Clinic, Policy Clinic- Gender and Human Rights.

UNC Law also has three “academic success programs” to assist its students. LEAP I and LEAP II are academic success programs offered to all students with the respective goals of assisting students in achieving academic success and passing the bar. The SOAR program serves as a bar preparation support program to all UNC Law graduates studying for the bar.

For those who are seeking joint degrees, UNC Law has a variety of programs for the for students to pursue, including J.D./M.A.M.C. (Juris Doctor/Master of Arts in mass communication), J.D./M.A.S.A. (Juris Doctor/Master of Arts in sports administration), J.D./M.B.A. (Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration), J.D./M.P.A. (Juris Doctor/Master of Public Administration), J.D./M.P.H. (Juris Doctor/Master of Public Health), J.D./M.P.P.S. (Juris Doctor/Master of Public Policy), J.D./M.R.P. (Juris Doctor/Master of Regional Planning), J.D./M.S.I.S. (Juris Doctor/Master of Science in information science), J.D./M.S.L.S. (Juris Doctor/Master of Science in library science), and J.D./M.S.W. (Juris Doctor/Master of Social Work).

UNC Law also offers five journals for students to choose from. They include: Law Review, International Law and Commercials Regulation, Journal of Law and Technology, Banking Law Journal, and the newest and most unique journal topic, First Amendment. For those who are not interested in journal work, UNC Law also has a moot court team and a mock trial team.
