The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund was established by the American Association For Justice (AAJ) Women for Justice Education Fund in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson, whose vision and generosity inspired it. The Scholarship is awarded annually to a female student entering their third year of law school (the student can be enrolled in a three-year day program or four-year night program) who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized.

Career Development Grants support women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance their careers, change careers, or re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields.

Grants provide support for course work beyond a bachelor's degree, including a master's degree, second bachelor's degree, or specialized training in technical or professional fields. Funds are available for distance learning. Course work must be taken at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States, or at a technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Funds are not available for PhD-level work.

The American Bar Association's Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law has a diverse membership of over 3000 lawyer and 6000 law student members who share a passion for strengthening the affordable housing and community development environment of our nation's communities. Each year, the Forum sponsors a writing competition that addresses any legal issue regarding affordable housing and/or community development law. The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school. Although each recipient will need to re-apply for the scholarship in his or her second and third year, the expectation is that the scholarship will be renewed each year if satisfactory performance in law school has been achieved, the student is otherwise eligible, and funding is available.

In addition to whether the applicant is a member of a racial and/or ethnic minority that has been underrepresented in the legal profession, the applicant's financial need; personal, family and educational background; personal statement; and participation in community service activities will be considered in selecting the recipients of the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarships. It is important for every applicant to complete all portions of the application. Financial information for the applicant and his or her parents is required to evaluate the applicant s financial need. A committee of ABA members will select the recipients. The decisions of the committee are final.

To be eligible to receive an ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following requirements:

1. The applicant must be an entering, first-year law student in the upcoming academic year. Only students beginning law school in the upcoming academic year will be eligible for an ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship. Law students who have completed one or more semesters or years of law school are not eligible. Applicants who are part-time law students also must be starting law school in the upcoming academic year to be eligible.

2. At the time of submission of the application, the applicant must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 grading scale) at his or her undergraduate institution. If the applicant has not completed his or her undergraduate degree at the time the application is submitted, he or she must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 grading scale) as of the most recent completed semester.

3. The applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America. Students, who are citizens and residents of a foreign country, even if they plan to attend law school in the United States, are not eligible to apply.

The Allen E. Broussard Scholarship Foundation is committed to the continued pursuit of Justice Broussard’s life long desire to assist minorities in their pursuit of higher education, better job opportunities, and careers in the legal profession. The Broussard Scholarship awards $5,000 of financial assistance annually to the recipient and is the largest private scholarship award for law students attending California Bay Area law schools. The award amount was selected to enable the Broussard Scholarship to assist academically well qualified students from economically deprived backgrounds. Assuming the recipient achieves satisfactory performance in law school, the award may be renewed for an additional two years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000.

Because of a unique partnership with the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund, applicants interested in applying for the Allen E. Broussard Scholarship need to complete only a single application. By completing the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund application, a candidate who plans to attend a California bay area law school will be eligible to receive either scholarship.

The Bert W. Levit Essay Contest is conducted by the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Lawyers' Professional Liability and the San Francisco law firm of Long & Levit LLP. The contest is administered and judged by a subcommittee designated by the ABA Standing Committee on Lawyers' Professional Liability. Each year, contestants answer a hypothetical question. The contest encourages original and innovative research and writing in the area of legal malpractice law, professional liability insurance and loss prevention. The competition will be conducted in two divisions. Each division will be judged separately, and separate prizes will be awarded to the winners of each division. Division I is open to candidates for a J.D. degree attending law schools within the United States and its possessions. Division II is open to lawyers under the age of 36 years or admitted to practice less than five years, and candidates for an LL.M. degree attending law schools within the United States and its possessions. All authors must be current members of the American Bar Association. Papers should address a topical issue of interest to the public contract and grant law community.

The first place winner in each division will receive a cash award of $5,000; second place in each division will receive a cash award of $2,500; and third place in Division I will receive a cash award of $1,000. Winning entries will be considered for publication in the Public Contract Law Journal, and selected competitors may be invited to present their papers during the Annual Federal Procurement Institute in Annapolis, Maryland; however, publication and presentation decisions are made independently of the writing competition and there is no guarantee that a winning entry will be published or selected for presentation. An impartial panel will judge the entries. The judges may withhold some or all of the awards if the submissions are not of notable quality. In the event of a tie, the award will be shared.

The goal of the competition is to encourage and reward law student writings on legal subjects within the scope of the Section and of general and current interest. The competition is open to any law school student in good standing, over the age of 18, who is currently attending an ABA-accredited law school within the United States and its possessions. The U.S. Constitution has long been interpreted by the courts and understood by most Americans to support comprehensive environmental protections. However, arguments questioning the constitutional legitimacy of environmental law have continued to gain traction in the federal courts. In response to this trend, ELI, ABA/SEER, and NAELS invite law students to submit papers exploring current issues of constitutional environmental law. Any topic addressing recent developments or trends in U.S. environmental law that have a significant constitutional or "federalism" component.

Students currently enrolled in law school (in the U.S. or abroad) are eligible, including students who will graduate in the upcoming spring or summer. Any relevant article, case comment, note, or essay may be submitted, including writing submitted for academic credit. Jointly authored pieces are eligible only if all authors are students and consent to submit. Previously published pieces, or pieces that are already slated for publication, are ineligible. Adam A. Milani was a passionate disability rights activist and accomplished scholar was well known for his publication of numerous practical books and articles in the field of disability discrimination. He taught legal writing as well as the law of disability discrimination and always encouraged his students to become prolific and outstanding writers. The purposes of the competition are to promote greater interest in and understanding of the field of disability law and to encourage excellent legal writing skills in law students.

The submission may address any aspect of disability law, theory, or practice the contestant chooses. Other permissible topics include issues arising under any of the following statutes: Civil Rights Act of 1964; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; Age Discrimination in Employment Act; Family and Medical Leave Act; or any state statutes or municipal ordinances prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The competition is open to all students who attend a law school in the United States. Full-time students who are not law students but who write law-related papers as part of a course at an American law school are also eligible. Employees of Mercer University School of Law (except for students working less than 20 hours per week) are not eligible to enter the competition.

The First Prize will range between $300 and $1,000, depending on whether multiple awards are given. The name of the winner(s) in each category will be posted online at the Mercer University School of Law website.

The American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) is a national organization headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico providing educational assistance to American Indian and Alaska native graduate students throughout the country. Since its founding in 1969, AIGC has awarded more than 15,000 scholarships totaling over $44 million to graduate students in all fields of study.

Each year, the AIGC fellowship program provides $1,200,000 in fellowships to over 350 Native American and Alaska Native graduate students. Graduate fellowships are monetary awards made to American Indian and Alaska Native graduate or professional degree-seeking students, who meet all eligible criteria. The United States Bureau of Indian Education federally funds the fellowship program. The fellowship amount is typically between $1,000 and $5,000 per academic year (not including summer), and varies from year-to-year, depending on the availability of funds and unmet financial need.

To be considered for an AIGC fellowship, the applicant must be:

- Pursuing a post baccalaureate graduate or professional degree as a full time student at an accredited institution in the U.S.
- Able to demonstrate financial need.
- An enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native group, or provide documentation of descendency (possess one-fourth degree federally recognized Indian blood).
